Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Montana State Hospital provides skilled nursing care, assessment, planning, and interventions for adult clients in a geriatric psychiatric setting. This role involves maintaining a therapeutic environment, supervising subordinate nursing personnel, and collaborating effectively within the interdisciplinary team. The RN is expected to demonstrate expertise in de-escalation techniques and psychopharmacology, with a focus on patient rights and treatment planning. A minimum of two years of experience in geriatric psychiatric nursing and current Montana RN licensure are required.

Responsibilities:

• Perform nursing assessments, planning, interventions, and evaluations for adult psychiatric clients.
• Provide assistance and support to clients in maintaining a therapeutic environment.
• Assign work and provide direction and training to subordinate nursing personnel.
• Administer medications and monitor patient responses in accordance with treatment plans.
• Utilize de-escalation skills to manage client behaviors safely and effectively.
• Document patient assessments, care plans, and progress accurately and thoroughly.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
• Use technology proficiently for patient care information systems.
• Adhere to patient rights and confidentiality standards.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Montana or compact licensure.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in geriatric psychiatric nursing.
• Knowledge of nursing, medications, treatment planning, and psychopharmacology.
• Ability to perform accurate patient assessments and documentation.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency in using patient care information technology.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• BLS certification.
• Driver's license.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• At least 1 year of travel contract experience in psychiatric nursing.

Special Considerations:

• Work involves providing care in a geriatric psychiatric inpatient facility.
• Must maintain flexibility with facility scheduling.
• Shift differential may be available.
• One meal provided per shift.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced psychiatric environment.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• Flexible scheduling according to facility needs.
